SSC CHSL 2026 vacancy details
SSC has reported approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies for the 2026 examination. These vacancies cover Group C posts including LDC/JSA, DEO and DEO Grade A in different Ministries, Departments, offices and other organisations of the Government of India. The figure is not a final post-wise vacancy list. The official notification says that final vacancies will be determined after the Commission receives and scrutinises vacancy information from the user departments.
Post-wise and category-wise vacancy information will be updated on the SSC website under the Candidate’s Corner and Tentative Vacancy section. SSC has also clarified that it does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies. Therefore, applicants should treat any state-wise vacancy chart shared by an unofficial website as unverified unless it is published by SSC or the concerned user department.
Important dates for SSC CHSL online form 2026
The application process began on 7 September 2026 and will remain open until 7 October 2026 at 11:00 PM. Candidates should complete registration, application details, document uploads or photograph requirements, and fee payment well before the final hours. The official deadline is not extended merely because a candidate has started the form.
Online fee payment can be made until 8 October 2026 at 11:00 PM. After the application period closes, SSC will open the correction facility from 14 October to 16 October 2026, also up to 11:00 PM. The notice does not announce the Tier-I or Tier-II examination schedule. SSC will publish those dates separately, so candidates should monitor the official SSC portal for the next update.
Eligibility criteria
Educational qualification
For LDC/JSA and DEO or DEO Grade A posts other than the departments specifically identified in the notice, candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board or University. Candidates applying for DEO or DEO Grade A in the specified departments, including the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC and Ministry of Culture, must have passed 12th Standard in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
A candidate who has appeared in the 12th Standard or equivalent examination may also apply, but the required qualification must be obtained by the cut-off date of 7 October 2026. At document verification, candidates will be required to produce original marksheets, provisional certificates or other accepted proof. The result of the qualifying examination must have been declared by the Board or University by the cut-off date; merely processing a result is not enough.
Age limit
The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026. In general, candidates must have been born not earlier than 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008. Upper-age relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories under the applicable Government of India rules. The notification lists, among others, five years for SC/ST candidates, three years for OBC candidates and ten years for PwBD candidates, with category-specific relaxations where applicable.
Application fee
The examination fee is ₹100. Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, eligible Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities are exempt from paying the fee, subject to the conditions in the official notice. Candidates should verify their category claim and retain the payment receipt or submitted application record for future reference.
SSC CHSL selection process
SSC CHSL selection includes Tier-I and Tier-II computer-based examinations, followed by the applicable qualifying components. Candidates who qualify Tier-I are shortlisted for Tier-II on the basis of their performance and the Commission’s normalisation process. In Tier-II, candidates must appear in all four sections and must qualify each section.
The Computer Knowledge Test and the Skill Test or Typing Test are qualifying in nature. The Skill Test is mandatory for qualified candidates applying for DEO posts. The Typing Test is mandatory for posts other than DEO, except for candidates who are specifically exempt under the applicable provisions. The final merit list is prepared from the aggregate marks in Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II, subject to qualifying Section-III and Section-IV and other selection requirements. Post preference is important and should be submitted carefully because the preference is treated as final after the stipulated opportunity.
Pay levels and posts
The official notice places LDC/JSA posts in Pay Level-2, with a pay scale of ₹19,900–63,200. DEO posts are listed in Pay Level-4 or Level-5, with pay scales of ₹25,500–81,100 and ₹29,200–92,300 respectively. DEO Grade A is listed in Pay Level-4, with a pay scale of ₹25,500–81,100. The actual department, duties and applicable allowances depend on the post and the final allocation.
